US may relax sulphur on diesel

I was watching one of the talking heads from the EPA on TV yesterday.

They mentioned they are considering relaxing the sulphur restriction on #2 to allow imports of finished product diesel and use of sour crude in the refineries for a short term fix to the hurricane.

From what I read here this fuel would be beneficial to the pre 2000 diesels running around, but I imagine those new e320 CDI's may have a problem. My understanding is that the quality of US diesel is marginal for teh e320 cdi until the 2006 standards come on stream.

Anyone hae experience on the effects of high sulphur on sender units, fuel components, etc? I have a gasser van that had problems last year with high sulphur gas that was erroneously distributed by Shell to Central Florida. It ruined the senderunit/fuel pump.
