CDI's in America
All I know is the E-class 320. Is there ever going to be anything else?

There's a possibility for the 400Cdi V8 S-class to come here once we have cleaner diesel one year from now. Also appearantly MB is going to be bringing a 320Cdi wagon model here too soon....

400cdi V-8
I hate to keep jumping up and down on this poor old dead horse...
The 400CDI V-8 is brought in through the Port of Charleston (S.C.) , trucked to Tuscaloosa and installed in the "M" class. The vehicles are then trucked to the Port of Savannah (Ga.) and exported to Deutschland. "Let me know if we can find a few, forgotten on the side of I-16" |

According to MB the new E class including a station wagon will feature their newer V6 diesels, additionally there will be M and R class SUV's about the same time. These are all 50 states cars using low sulfur diesel to be standard here in 2006.
I was hoping for smaller C class CDI's, they have them in Europe, no luck, MB of N America is more interested in selling expen$ive cars here. Vahe 240D 77/350K |

I know to sell an inexpensive car here would "tarnish" their reputation, but I for one would jump on an a-class cdi!
A nice manual transmission, manual everything car with hubcaps and a/c. Just like the 240 i drive, but except tiny, ugly and *efficient* heh heh I guess, then, its nothing like the 240, is it? it'd still be nice to get 40mpg or so and not have to worry about safety like you would in an echo, aveo or hyundai! What would the price-point be for the diesel C? I'm fairly certain it'd carry a premium over the 230.

The C class Benz has a CDI in Europe...almost all of them do...its just the USA that has it on what is one of the most expensive models that is out of reach for 90% of the public.
Wanted to take pictures of a C200 CDI wagon in Italy....sweet looking car that might be affordible to many of us if they ever wanted to sell it here.

It all depends how much $hit is packed in the car, MB of North America likes to include everything imaginable for ultimate "creature comfort" in their imports. In that same article that I referred to, the MB R&D chief indicated that CDI engines are more expensive to manufacture than gasser versions. Vahe 240D 77/350K |

what i was saying about the premium pricetag was that just like VW with the jetta/golf, we'd end up paying around $35k(instead of the $29,999.99 of the 230/230k)
i know the engines are more expensive to produce than gas engines. theyve got to be screwed/bolted together better and beefier and all that jazz. the suspensions are heavier too? i dont want to sound terribly uninformed but if vw can produce a decent long-lived diesel car the same size as the C for 21, then why cant the merc price out at or around the same point of its gasser counterpart? is labor in mexico really that cheap? im only margionally informed about vw in mexico; i decided that the mercedes was the way to go with a diesel because ive always liked the unfutzedwith 3 box design. its still not out of style, ya know? i drove a jetta 1.8T whenever i was shopping for my new car and decided that painted interior plastics werent for me. if i was going to get a cheap car, i was going to get a CHEAP car. back to topic, though... is anyone here familliar with the base model cdi c's price-point as converted to american dollars?
