How do you distinguish Teeves, Girling, Bendix on Rear Brake calipers (85 300D)?

How do you distinguish among Teeves, Girling, or Bendix on Rear Brake calipers (85 300D)? Mine are chewed up miserably and need to be rebuilt. I will post a picture shortly this aftenoon.

Teeves = ATE. The name is often cast on the caliper.

I went through this on my front brakes. ATE/Teeves calipers have a more refined, for lack of a better word, casting. They appear closer to machined with sharper edges and corners. Bendix calipers are rougher castings with very rounded edges and corners. I studied the photos and came up with this. Also, from what I was told, unmarked calipers are usually Bendix. Maybe someone can give you a more definitive way than this but that is what worked for me.

the bendix

use the pad retainng pins that are held in by little hair pin clips. i like the ate better. dont know if they are functionally better but i dont like the little hair pins.

I've found that the Bendix does have the little Bendix logo in the casting on the outside of the caliper. The ATE had nothing and I had to compare it to a photo to ensure they were the same.

WorldPac has some good photos of both calipers. Should be on this site or Rusty's.

The font for the ATE logo is a little goofy, for lack of a better description. It's easy to see it and not realize that you saw it. Which is not to say that it is always present.
Visible here in the lower left, below the "60."
