Engine swap???

I have a nice 1982 240D with a 4-speed manual transmission, The motor lost a bearing. I tried to replace it with a used motor, but the motor turned out to be junk.

I just bought a 1975 240D that runs good, but is rough on the exterior.

Can I put the 1975 motor in the 1982 car and use the manual tranny out of the 1982??? The motor is not original to the car. It was taken out of another car. I am not sure what year it is.

Where in California are you? Wanna save me the driver's door window regulator outta your '75 donor car? Or even the rear passenger, one, too...

(I'm clueless as to answering your actual question, sorry!)

Thanks,
Jason

To answer your question directly, between 115 (68-76) and 123 (77-85) chassis cars the engine isn't a straight swap and at the least may require fabrication skills that are beyond your capabilities.

Primarily, the oil filter on the '75 240 engine is located on the bottom of the engine, next to the oil pan which, I'm guessing, will conflict with either stuctural members or the steering box on the '82's chassis. There are some differences in throttle linkages too...

and

the 115 chassis and early 123 chassis motors use a frankenstein bracket to hold the ac comp up top near the pass side of the valve cov. this covers the side of the water pump and bolts onto the motor mount, the manifold, and perhaps several other disparate places. as far as i know the tranny will bolt up but i am not 100% sure of that. best to get an 82 if possible.

If that engine is in good shape I may want to bid on it too. Mine runs nice but the blowby seems to be more than it should be.

I'm not ready to sell the 75. It is our only working vehicle at this time...We plan on keeping it. Espescially if I cannot swap motors. Then I will just drive it.
