an interior drain

Last week I went thru a car wash in my '87 300SDL. A few days later I noticed the underside of the driver's side floor mats werepretty wet.Since there's been no rain for a while,I assumed the water had seeped UP thru the floorboard!Removing the mats,I find a small(golf ball size)indentation in the floorboard,a few inches from the gas pedal..in the center is the tip of a screw which I guess was applied from underneath. Now,after a drive,I notice a small pool of warm water settles in the small indent.I put some caulking adhesive around the screw, hoping to keep the water out..no luck! Is it possible the water is coming from the inside??This is just plain weird....Any ideas? anybody? C'mon Hatterasguy,I know you got some info....

You're going to want to perform the good ole search. There are several potential sources. Not having had a water problem like yours, I have not bookmarked the threads but certainly read most of them.

Does the H2O also drain/find it in the driver's rear seat footwell??
This seems to be lower than the front sometimes.

Yeah I had the same problem, it isn't coming from underneath look up.

I know I typed this up with a bit more detail before but here you go:
Look at the plastic grating under the windsheild. Remove that.

You will see two large drains in the center of the car, their are plastic chutes that direct the water from those drains to under the car. The plastic chutes were not really put in properly new and after say 17 years start to leak water down. I bet if you look at the dust behind your brake and throttle peddle you will see water trails. I used a combo of coper flashing and Marine Tex to build up the lip of the drain so the water does not get behind the chute. This seems to work. Frankly this is the only place I have found so far where I can say MB cheaped out and did crappy work.

The title of my thread was somthing like "it rained and my car now has a new leak" Or something along those lines.

Also the foam behind the carpet sucks up a lot of water, let them dry out or they will stink.

Thanks..used the search..amazed at how common the water problem is...that indented area, near where the right heel rests..it looks like it's part of the design..what is it's function?..Tomorrow I clean out some debris and hunt for drain holes..we'll see what happens...
