White smoke from turbo? on start up 1987 300 TDT
Help I need some advise...
Upon start up with a cold engine I get a puff of white smoke from the center of a crome gasget in the tube on the passenger side of the engine near the coolant tank just below the manifold in the center. I was told it is coming from the turbo or is the turbo  . I can see some black exaust smudge in between the crome rings. Is this an easy fix, just a leak in the gasget? Or... I also get a bit of white smoke from the exaust but only on start up, when it warms up, none. I think I have a bad glow plug but is there a problem with the turbo as well? The engine sputters for about 30 seconds then levels off. Is the white smoke part of a bigger problem (head gasget?) there is not a odor of coolant in the exaust that I can tell or any oil in the coolant. I tried to post some photos but they are too big to post... Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks, Toby |
Eugene,
White smoke is usually unburned atomized fuel. You say your engine runs rough so it is misfiring and emitting unburned fuel from the exhaust. Do a resistance check on your GP. You probably have one bad GP or more. P E H |
Why is the smoke coning out of the gasget?
Do you think it has anything to do with the turbo? :) |
