White smoke from turbo? on start up 1987 300 TDT

Help I need some advise...

Upon start up with a cold engine I get a puff of white smoke from the center of a crome gasget in the tube on the passenger side of the engine near the coolant tank just below the manifold in the center. I was told it is coming from the turbo or is the turbo  . I can see some black exaust smudge in between the crome rings. Is this an easy fix, just a leak in the gasget? Or...

I also get a bit of white smoke from the exaust but only on start up, when it warms up, none. I think I have a bad glow plug but is there a problem with the turbo as well? The engine sputters for about 30 seconds then levels off.

Is the white smoke part of a bigger problem (head gasget?) there is not a odor of coolant in the exaust that I can tell or any oil in the coolant.

I tried to post some photos but they are too big to post... Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Toby

Eugene,

White smoke is usually unburned atomized fuel. You say your engine runs rough so it is misfiring and emitting unburned fuel from the exhaust.

Do a resistance check on your GP. You probably have one bad GP or more.

Why is the smoke coning out of the gasget?

Do you think it has anything to do with the turbo?

:)
