need some 240d engine information

i just picked up a 1983 240d engine that i am planning to use in a rockcrawler im currently building. I need to find electrical, vaccum, and fuel diagrams if can. if anyone has some pictures of the linkages so i can start to fab up some new ones. also, this motor is to old to be comp. controlled right, im not up on mercedes to much. any info at all would be great so i can start to get this thing running. does anyone know where to get a flywheel for cheap? ive got a tranny and thats the last thing i need... thanks alot in advance!!

You are correct in that there is no computer control.
Vacuum is used to control car functions, ( door locks and tranny shifts), but you don't need that. There is a vacuum pump built in to the engine, if you need it.
No electrical connections to run the engine except for starter and you can probably figure that one for yourself.
There is a vacuum connection for fuel shutoff, but there is also a mechanical over ride built into the throttle linkage--the big tab marked "stop"--pushing it toward the valave cover stops the engine.

what is the motor going into? I don't think you will find any low end torque on that motor till she gets up some serious rpms...

curious to know.. I have always wanted to drop a 300D 617 motor in my land Cruiser.. I still may do it.

Buildin a rock crawler, huh? Thats probably a good idea and would be great to hear how it turns out.

Try the permanent sticky folders attached here for searching specs and schematics. And here's a pretty good national junkyard directory to help you find a flywheel: http://www.classicjunkyard.com/junkyards/index.html

Finally some 240D engine historical info that might help you appreciate your rock crawler project -> That particular engine was considered so versatile that India bought the blueprints from MB. Then India started building their own 240D engines and chucking em into all kinds of vehicles - using em for boats, water pumps, generators, power plants, etc..... its even been said that India continues to build em and keeps em in service today.

thanks for the advice guys! until i get some funds in the bank, i think im just going to leave it out of the crawler for now and just build a "go cart" out of some scrap tube steel i have left over. I am kind of toying with the idea of putting it in my 98 tacoma but i think there will be a little bit to much fab work to make it work correctly. it should be a little out of bounds on power for something that weighs maybe 500lbs minus engine. that engine isnt all that heavy either, 4 of us lifted it into my pickup so maybe 800lbs? its not going in anything big. it will power the crawler eventually though. the vaccum stuff is good to know. does anyone know where the fuel cutoff vacuum lines run to? The plastic nipples on the injector pump im assuming and then to the vacuum pump. ill put some pictures up when its finished, should be a wicked fast cart i believe, plus it will smoke pretty good. i think a chrome stack is in order

One vacuum line connects from the injection pump to the ignition switch. A vacuum supply goes to the other side of the ignition switch. That way, the key switch can turn off the engine, via vacuum.
