Finally, I can introduce my "new" car!

Here it is. 83 300SD, 159,000 miles. Came with a stack of receipts from three different auto shops, including a rebuilt tranny. Supposedly the engine was replaced at 25K, don't know why and can't find that one. No rust. He said it needs a pound of freon to be "ice cold." Whatever, it's cold enough for me! $4000.

Drove it over 200 miles this weekend. Took it up to 95 for little bit. I'm happy. It needs an alignment, and that's starting to become a pain as no one seems to want to do it. Any thoughts on this one? (could possibly need a ball joint or something as it was alligned one year ago, and 6 months previous to that. But I jacked up the front and shook it around. Seemed rock solid...)

Also, the left rear window stopped working a couple days before I bought it and he had his mechanic just put it back up. I called the dude and he said it just "needs a clip." What do you suppose that is?

Anyway, I'm glad I can fianlly post as a diesel benz owner instead of a wannabe poseur.

Nice looking car ... white on palomino is my favorite combination. Looks like the interior is in super condition.

Welcome to dieselhood!

Where in Colorado are you? I have gone to Alignment Masters on South Broadway (Denver). They seem to be able to handle MBs.

Boulder/Longmont. I wanted to get the lifetime deal from Firestone, but they'd have none of it. Gunbarrel Import Motors wants $112 to do it. I don't know if I trust them though. They were the ones who rebuilt the tranny and this is the second car I know of that they've done that too. First one I know of their reasoning was "these cars need it every 150K miles." Sounds like crap to me when it most likely just needs an adjustment. And they are mercedes dealers!

Nice looking ride.

I'll be following along on this thread. My front end is rock solid but still pulls to the left. Was told it was the tires but I switched tires with my other car and it still pulls.

Welcome!!

Cheers,

Bill

Well it's about GD time.

It's certainly a good looking vehicle. Well maintained will save you a bunch of money down the road.

Welcome to the club.

I don't know anyone in your area, but the place I mentioned (Alignment Masters (303) 761-7219) charges about $70-80, and is located here:

I don't know if that's too far for you. It's the place my mechanic sends his MB work, and they seemed to do a good job on mine. Good luck with the new car!

Yeah, I know. They are pretty trashed though. I don't think scrubbing them will help too much. I'll give it a go though. One thing at a time. It took two hours to wash it (it was filthy.) Then I cleaned and conditioned the leather, another 2+ hours. It's all fun though!

Yeah, now you don't have to look at my whining "I want a car" posts, and you can read my "what the hell just happened/what is this/how do I fix this?" posts !

I'm sure your posts about maintenence records played a big part in my decision to purchase. I saw that stack of reciepts and knew I had better get this one.

Thanks,
Brandon

Nice. That one looks nicer than the one I looked at for you last summer. Looks the same from the outside, but the interior of the one here was navy blue. You did good, enjoy!

I just did the right rear window "clip" in a 300SD not long ago. It's about a $15 dealer part. Install takes about an hour + beer time. Remove the regulator (it probably still moves, but might be disconnected). Cut or grind off the old clip. Put the new one on and use a hammer to peen over the center of the stud. You'll see what I mean once you get the new one.
