Head gasket?

I just purchased a 1985 190D, and failed to knowtice that the radiator resevoir has alot of oil in it. Does this mean that my heaad gasket is shot? motor cracked?, the oil in the car did not seem milky though. the car runs and drives fine, but i thought it got up a little hot. any help would be greatly appreciated

You sure its engine oil and not trans fluid?

I ask becasue I had my W116 radiator start to leak trans fluid into the radiator from the cooler.

If it's oil, odds are that the head gasket requires replacement............and, hopefully, nothing else.

do you think that you can just replace the gasket?
or does the head need to be shaved/replaced?
