mixing Diesel with gasoline in cold weather

I read some folks mix certain amount of Gasoline with Diesel in cold regions to get her start easier.
I wonder if mixing some Gas will help those tired engine that has reduced compression?
The ones hard to start.

What ratio will not make a rod come out the side?
Some say up to 30%

Any advice please.
TIA

I can feel the flames already. Never mix RUG (Gasoline) with diesel. It's a bad idea considering there are cheaper and better solutions like K1 or Methane. For what you are trying to accomplish a good fuel additive will probably surffice. Keep in mind a well maintained diesel will start under some pretty extreme conditions. Think Glow Plugs, Injectors, Fuel Filters, Valve Adjustment instead of Gasoline.

Feel free to state your opinion TX just make sure you identify that it is in "your opinon". Don't state "NEVER MIX RUG" as if it as a hard fact, particularly when it is contrary informatoin to the owners manual.

Anyway..... SD300 if all the other things listed by TX are in proper condition then... maybe your idea will work? It would be wise to add something to increase the luberocity like a qt. of veg oil. Would not hurt to try? Might be better to try the glowplug upgrade first though.

Have you actually done a compression check?

I can feel the flames already. Is an indication that I am about to make an opinion. But I will consult you next time before posting

Why don't you try it

It is definetly a common practice in extreme cold weather to add gasoline to diesel. I think it does aid a bit in starting because the atomized gasoline coming through the injectors would stay vaporized better then diesel until the point of ignition. However, I think the real benefit in adding gasoline is to aid in the flowing of the fuel through the system, that is strainer, fuel line and filters. But if your vehicle has low compression and is difficult to start, why not give it a try. Start by adding one gallon to a tank of fuel. If it seems to work, possibly 2 gallons which is roughly 10 % of a typical fuel tanks capacity, might even be better. Then you would have the answer and you could let us know. I am right now running 10% gasoline with 90% WVO and I suppose that going back a few tankfuls, that there still is some diesel. But my last three fill-ups have been WVO and Gasoline. One tank full I went 20% gasoline and I felt that the engine was not real happy with that. It kind of growled. I am hoping that with the addition of gasoline I will be able to run WVO later into the fall season. How much later, well we will soon find out.
