B20: $3.059
Diesel at most stations: same
Reg. Gas: $2.979
Diesel at Texaco near my house: $3.789 :wtf: Why does one station charge $0.70 more than everyone else in town? Do they actually do any business?

i keep hearing

that the supply of gasoline etc is restricted by the capacity to refine. so if i am a big oil company let me see, is it more profitable to build more refineries? or just raise prices?......hmmmmmm.

supposidly the free market will take care of the problem, right? welllllllll, yes if there is actually a free market. the questin is , is there?

i am thinking no. there is price fixing and collusion. that is what i am thinking.

all the talk about lack of refineries seems very likely, with the complexion of washington dc at present, to result in tax breaks for big oil to build refineries.

it seems as if big oil has us all by the short hair.

as a person who lives in the heart of the breadbasket of the country, i note that the farmers use a lot of fertilizer, which in the small print one can note, is produced by companies owned by big oil.

my dad used to say "if you think food is expensive now wait til all the farmland is owned by three big corporations".

my $.02.

Umm... no. Actually one has to look even shorter distances, it's the american oil companies that caused this problem. Regulation, we need it.

Diesel $3.19 to $3.45
Premium as low as $2.89
Ouch

MAC2,

Actually it is the Greenies and the Nimbys that have raised all of the barriers to refinery construction. If you think it is so easy and cheap, start building one today. You should make a mint if you ever get it done!!!!!!!

High priced Diesel

I agree that diesel should come in around unleaded prices..but I get double the mileage with diesel than with my gasser cars...so wouldnt that be 1/2 price if my claculator is working correctly?

Nimby = Not in my back yard!..............

Did a lot of the econ calcs for process evaluations, retired now. These units are expensive, and particularly now that you need to be able to handle hi viscosity (tar), high sulfur crud(e) that is more plentiful than the desired west texas intermediate.

Have heard that the answer to all of our complaints about high fuel prices is to buy oil co. stocks. Well maybe?!?

There is enough blame for liberals, conservatives and the oil companies to go around. We need to drill off the coasts of florida and california and in ANWR. We need to make it easier to build refineries. We need to simplify the gasoline formulas. This country needs to build nuclear power plants. This is not Haliburton's, or Mobile's or the Carliylse group's fault. Why are diesel prices so high? To many folks in the Northeast use oil rather than gas(LP or natural) or electric.

Just my 2 cents.

Nobody in their right mind expects prices to match what they were 5 years ago when RUG was $0.99 a gallon but it should be clear to anyone that prices are starting to drop.

You are a very angry person. Let us see.... Law of Supply and Demand.

Demand high=Prices High
Demand high+Low supply=Panic and much higher prices

Building a new refinery makes little economic sense to an industry that is seeing huge profits by putting out less product than is needed. If I'm in business and I can make my shareholders happy and do less work in the process the choice is obvious: Screw the consumer.

I told the wife she was going to have to park the 240 after this tankfull ($50 ) and start driving her winter car - Volvo 740 Turbo. Next spring when the snow and salt are gone - WVO kit

BTW - I think we are operating with fewer refineries than in the '70's, with a much higher demand. I've also been reading how visionary the French were to build so many Nuke plants and are now getting most of thier energy from them.

In SoCal diesel is about 3.39 a gallon. The highest I found was 3.49, and the lowest 3.19. However, you have to drive to get the 3.19 diesel, which I do quite often. The worst price I saw was in Bakersfield of the 5 in the central valley. 3.80. When I drove by a week later, no price was listed.

A while ago, the first time gasoline topped $2.50, our president went on TV and told the nation that it is DEMAND that is causing the rise in prices.

I own and operate a retail gift store. If my customers were to come in and ask me why my prices had doubled in a week and I told them DEMAND, they would think I'm cracked. That answer of "demand" would not say anything about my suppliers, or that it costs me more. I would be saying that I am charging more because I CAN charge more. Simple.

I still can't see how that answer satisfies anyone.

Of course, hurricanes are a different story, but they started collecting for that even before the hurricane hit, so they have made the money to cover that expense.
