foot flaps not working with heat?

For the 300D. I've been noticing on these colder mornings that I can't get the foot well flaps to open with heat. They work fine with the A/C on but not heat so I know the pod is good. Where should I look for the cause of this problem.

There's a switchover valve behind the climate control buttons. I don't know if the valve is operated differently on heat than on AC but it's a possibility. It's pretty easy to put the Mity vac on the line to the pod and see if you are getting any vacuum at all when heat is activated.

Confused by your statement that your foot well flaps work fine with A/C. My understanding is that there should be no air flow into the passenger footwell compartments with either A/C or unheated air. Only heated air should be coming out those vents.

By the way, the foot flaps should also be closed if you push the far left button for high defrost.

They are closed with defrost. Open with the two white arrows and closed with the upper black, lower white arrow buttens when in cooling mode.

Yup. After a year of thinking mine were broken, I tried the double-white arrow button a few weeks ago and heat came out of the footwells!

The manual seems to be a bit unclear about this. I'm pretty sure only heat or non-cooled air should come out of the footwell vents.

I don't think I was very clear. All of the info above is in cooling mode. I get nothing out of the foot flaps in any heat mode.

I love Mercedes

I tore apart everything in the dash and tested every vac valve and checked the electric solonoids for function as well as the right signal. I found a dead fresh/recirc valve (line caped for now) and thats all. For some reason unknown to me the foot flaps started to work properly. Also I found that the defroster is always on but the 2 stage valve holds vac fine on both stages. It's connected to the center vent somehow but those work fine. Right now with the A/C season over I'm calling it fixed (minus the fresh/recirc valve which I'll order a diaphram for).

Now on to the door lock system!
