life time warrenty bilsteins

i dont know if anyone knew this or not but, the other night i was messing with the computer at work and found that autozone can get them for about the same price as we can online but they have a lifetime warrenty. the only thing is that they have to be ordered. you can either pay for them and get ur money back when you return the ones you had warrentied or if you have time you can just take them off and wait for the new ones. just thought i would mention it.

i am a little afraid of autozones lifetime warranty.

my brother had an identity crisis datsun/nissan once, a terrible 5 door stanza. the starter, alternator and brakes were all from autozone and it was one long chain of ripping one out, returning it, installing it and it never stopped. ever.

A friend of mine had the same problem with a power steering pump. It was a neverending replacement job.
But Bilsteins are Bilsteins whether from Autozone or anywhere else.

Bilstein shock absorbers come with a warranty regardless of where you buy them.

Yeah but Bilstein itself is nasty on the warranty. I had a car with pair of their "lifetime warranty" shocks but couldnt find a bilstein source that would honor it. Even tried contacting Bilstein North American importer without success.

Meanwhile Autozone has gotta have better warranty service than Bilstein does. I tried them too, but they turned me away only because my shocks werent bought there. Otherwise they told me it would be an immediate exchange.

All hat and no cattle..... thats my impression of the Bilstein "lifetime" warranty after haggling with em and getting nowhere. Plus Bilstein HATES people installing their own shocks. Local indie MB mechanic laughed when I asked if they would honor their warranty through him.

I worked for autozone

I worked at AZ for awhile and i found that 99% of the warrenties had no problems. The major problem was people forgetting the phone numbers they had when they placed the part under warrenty. No phone number or no recept made if difficult but not impossible. IF the shocks are of decent qaulity i would trust the warrenty. Remember the phone number u placed the warrenty under and keep the recipt INSIDE the house not in the car. The recepts are designed to biodegrade in any sort of heat and the ink will dissapear.

well yea they wont warrenty anything not theirs. the only crappy thing about it is they have to order them. so either you can pay and get the money back or you can give them yours and again, wait.

i worked for them too. i agree pretty much all the problems were because of missing phone numbers. technically if they bought them there and the warrenty was lost you could force the warrenty through.

The SD needs shocks rather badly.

I'm sorely tempted to tempt fate:

Anybody have any recent experience? Is the shock legit??

Over the phone Bilstein North America jerked me around and made no offer for replacement at all, just kept telling me to go to one of their distributors. Oooops, the distributors told me to find the ONE specific fellow who sold me the shocks.... no longer in business.

Either Bilstein should stand on their unconditional warranty for their products or they should quit telling lies.

i dont think i would chance it. just got to autozone. save the old ones so if you ever need new ones you dont have to pay or take the old ones off and wait for them.

I had the same experience with alternators and starters from Checker/Kragen Auto Parts. I finally got a used Bosch alternator from a junkyard and it lasted 40K miles ++ I would stay away from Checker/Kragen and Autozone parts as much as possible.
