Where are the Mercedes Diesel's in Oklahoma?

I left NJ for Oklahoma for almost two months.I just got back to NJ from the airport. I never ever saw a Mercedes Diesel in Oklahoma the entire time I was there! There was no Internet at the place I rented a room either and my cell phone didnt get service! It was like living in the 1960's. I did not see one 240D or 300D or anything close to it ....

I couldnt get over one thing, however. How nice and how decent and how friendly the people were and it really made me wonder about modern life and all kinds of deep stuff motorheads dont think about anyway. I hung out and drank beer with some guys from the military who were working on the equipment I was fixing, we traded insults until the thick skinned even got po'd but it was all in great fun and everyone had a great time and we had a last day party and it was great.

Anyway I am back and on the Net. My PC has been unused for 2 months and I turned it on 5 minutes ago. Did anyone miss me? Now that I have a PC my wife says," I see you have your brain back again..."

There are several of us here in NE oklahoma, including Tulsa, and also in the Oklahoma City Metro area. In general, I would suspect that the count goes down the farther away you get from the two major metro areas. Of course there are/were dealerships in Wichita, DFW, and Springfield Mo., so possibly more near those areas as well.

Appreciate the good words about the local residents!!!

Growing up on Long Island and living in Texas (DFW area) for the last 20 years
this is my take on the post.
Yes, people in Oklahoma are friendly. But once you leave New Jersey, Just about everyone is friendly or friendlier.
Not a tremendous amount of Mercedes diesels in OK. Pickup diesels YES. the pickup is the state car.

For me, I saw plenty of MB diesels in Tulsa. Before I moved to Colorado I counted 189 different cars in one years time.

Alot of Oklahoma are farm/rural areas. Most of my friends are what avreage people would label as "rednecks."

Nice state if you want to get a home with lots of open land. Not much to do as far as tourist type things. That's one reason I left OK for CO, much more to do here.

I lived in OKC for 2 years and Stillwater for ~6 months and saw a few other Mercedes. Surely a lot more than I see here in Kansas, but then now I don't live in a metro are either.

I never understood why everybody didn't own a diesel in Oklahoma. With the fuel tax structure, diesel was almost always cheaper than gas by a decent margin. Of course right now I am sure that is no longer the case...

I'm glad you had a good experience here in Oklahoma, personally I think this is a great place to live.
I live in North Central Oklahoma and I don't think there are more than a couple of diesels in the area. I suspect I own the only one in the county I live in.
I think the reason there are not very many is because of the distance to a dealership. We had a dealership for several years within 50 miles, but they lost the dealership about 12 years ago, and I don't remember seeing a diesel at the place. Also I agree with Dave, the state vehicle is a pickup and usually a tonner diesel.
Our diesel here is 3.39 and one of the guys I work with that lives in Kansas said it was 3.79(!!!!!) on the interstate this morning. It seems a little strange when the rack price is only .25 more than unleaded.
Come back and visit.

There used to be a couple of "transplants" there on a waaay-too-regular basis. When SWMBO's father was living we were up there every couple of months in either Marlene the Wagon or Lilly the 300D and, toward the (his) end, much, much more frequently.

Here's where I documented the first time Lilly made the OKC turn:Lilly's Big Adventure

I once did an OKC->Austin->OKC->Austin marathon road trip in less than 24 hours and returned to Austin from OKC one time w/out the benefit of an operational alternator.

I live in Norman which is just south of Oklahoma City. I commute nearly everyday to the University of Oklahoma and I see at least one or two other 300D's in the parking lot. There are probably between 5-10 in town that I see regulary, so few that I'm starting to recognize the driver when the beautiful piece of engineering marvel catches my eye. The only two people that own them that I know personally is my '85 300D and my brother's '84. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

" Did anyone miss me?"

Remember that it has not been too long since you TURNED OFF YOUR OWN PROFILE .... which in the old days was like breaking someone's plate and turning their chair facing the wall... but you did that to us...
So we figured if you decided to show up again we would know YOU missed Us...
LOL

Geez cut me a break

I had no Internet in Oklahoma! For almost 9 weeks!

I'm having post Oklahoma withdrawl. In Oklahoma, even strangers wave at you and say hi and the ladies at service stations wish you a safe trip and mean it when you are motoring down the highway at 2 in the morning. People hang up their cell phone to stop and give you directions and its just a totally different feeling then being here in NJ....

No Slack...

Since you are from the north you may not understand this...
If I were heading to some area for a stay of several weeks...
I would post a thread saying " Hey I am coming that way... Throw me a Get Together"....
LOL

But you sneak down to OK, stay there incommunicado...Did the LIBRARY possibly have internet access ? ..... then let us know after you get back ?

LOLOL

As I head down to the garage to resume my NJ life...

In NJ I don't even know my neighbor's name, so I stopped going out 10 years ago..No one at work is even that close ..thats in fact why I volunteered to go to Oklahoma...

Hey, you know what else? I rented a PT Cruiser for the last three weeks. Those are great cars, and I thought about buying one! I remember laughing at one when they first came out, but after i rented one and drove all the way to the Grand Canyon one weekend ( and back) I was impressed!!

Its back to my 300D. The battery didn't die and she started up on the first ket stroke!!

There is no doubt that some nice cars are being made these days....
But it depends on the criteria you apply to them...

In 25 years... do you think you will be able to find parts for them like you can for my 1980 123 ? Do you think the computer chips they run on can be bought ? The parts yards that I know of CRUSH everything over 10 years old... times have changed...and there are aspects of the new times which I don't like....

Greg,
You won't even drive the 60 miles from your place to Berry Hill Farm and you are leading Carrow to think you'd go to OKC? It is at least TWICE as far away!!!

Next time, go find a Schlotsky's Deli. Most of them have computers that you can use to surf the net. Okie Schlotsky's

I was not trying to imply that I could come up to OK... but SOMEONE in the area would probably speak up and say ' let's visit' ....

My first thought to the question this thread asked was " buried under Red Dirt"...
LOL
