Fuel Filter Question- 603

After changing the fuel filter on our SDL, we can't get it to start. Is there some sort of pump we need to prime to put gas back into the filter?? Thanks

I think we did this in the shop because it was under warranty when they discovered a fuel leak in the car I bought used. Seems like some brain surgeon had decided that when they changed the shutoff valve they could reuse the O-ring. Of course, it failed and now the hoses are all leaking so they changed everything. Of course, they didn't have all the hoses which is what I suspected so I brought everything for them and billed them.

Anyways, the way we changed the fuel filters and they didn't have diesel there so they cranked on it for a bit and it filled up. However, I am told that we can substitute pretty much most fluids in the shop. I think Gilly once mentioned to me that they would fill it up with ATF so the crank time is shorter.

THanks, but I am still a little confused. Do you know the location of where they cranked on "it"? Any other people want to add in? That would be great.

On the 617, there is a device in which you unscrew and pump in a vertical motion. Is there such a device on the 603? Thanks for your time.

On my , they used the starter to get the fuel to the filters. I know that on older cars there is a manual pump but not on my car. Either fill the filters or crank it.,

603's are self priming just keep trying and it will start but be careful not to overheat the starter.

I'd say a 30 second run at the starter with a minute to cool down before recrankiing would be good.

Be easy on your engine, battery, and starter - - -

Place the new spin on filter under the hole where the bolt goes to screw on to the filter - but don't put in the bolt just yet. Instead, place a small funnel in the hole and pour some Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement ( or similar fluid) which will drain into the new filter. Since the filter is not snugged up to the bracket, you can see when the filter gets full( or nearly so). Then, screw on the filter. Start the engine . It will miss for a second or two, then run smoothly. One last hint, which most of you know: WARM up the engine before you change the filters, for an easier start. And don't use diesel fuel from the old filter because it probably has dirt in it and some will flow directly to the injectors.
