So, when bleeding the fuel lines after changing the fuel filters...

The manual says to unscrew the bolt holding the spin on fuel filter and then pump till there are no more bubbles. I did that. The car wont start. I should have searched on this site, because I would have found out that I should have filled the spin on filter with fuel. I didn't.
WWYD?

(What would you do?)

Pump, pump; roughly 100 strokes, then try starting again.

Yes, and if that doesn't work you are going to have to bleed the pump and inj's if you tried to start it with a dry filter.

NO, with the system sealed.
You should feel/hear a change when it has flushed enough air out to start.

If you haven't already - switch to the newer primer pump. See the D.I.Y. tab at the top of this page. The differences on the number of pumps required is about 10:1.

Funny this came up recently. I just did a diesel purge on my 300SD two days ago and then changed the fuel filters. I actually didn't fill up the spin on filter with any fuel. I attached it back empty, then I used the primer to get some fuel flowing into it. I don't think I filled it up because even after pumping about 20 times, when the car started, the engine hesitated, hesitated, almost died and then started idling perfectly normally. I guess it took some time to really get the fuel flowing.
