replacing engine mounts...what about engine shock?
This is for my 83 300 D turbo. Are the engine shocks long lasting or are they usually bad for a car with 245k and probably never been replaced? At $50+ each side I'm hesitant to just go and order a set. What if the shocks are bad and I leave them in? What difference will I notice? Can the shocks be put in after the mounts are in without taking the mounts out again?

These are small but they offer almost the same resistance as a new car shock....

doesn't
matter, change them now or later. unrelated to mounts except you will have your tools out for both. unfasten the little shock and pull and push on it if it is flaccid replace it. it will help control the 5 cyl hop that all 617s have.

Link above have 2 different engine mounts, the A7000-16026 Corteco/Freudenberg is $12.36, almost half of the Lemforder. Are they the same thing or is the Corteco/Freudenberg something else?

You used to be able to just buy new rubber bushings for a few bucks for the shocks if they are still okay. Don't know if they are still available or not.

Don't forget to check the upper engine shock mounts...mine had both mounts shot too...(they are rubber bonded in stamped steel)
