Hi everyone,
I'm new to the board, and somewhat new to diesel performance, but I've been building 1000rwhp gasoline race cars for years. I'm really excited to see that there's actually a group of people out there modding these wonderful cars. I have two 300SD's. One is an '83 and the other an '84. I started noticing little power improvements when I cleaned out about an 1" of sludge from inside the intake manifold.
Last night I decided to see what sort of boost the '83 was running (before I found this board) so I ran a boost gauge. To my surprise it was peaking at 9psi and falling to about 4 by redline. I assumed this was due to a restriction in the exhuast so I cut out the two inline mufflers and replaced them with a straight pipe and its now holding 10psi for the whole powerband

. Then I found out about the ALDA and the car is a whole different animal. Anyway I just finished putting an intake on and making an oil seperator.
I have a few questions for ya. I'm about to put an EGT gauge in and am wondering what sort of temps I should be seeing? I'm also about to add an IC and I'm curious what sort of boost these motors can handle, and at what boost/power will I run out of fuel?
TIA,
-Berty
