Mine has not held up well. The white coloring is chipping away from the star. How has others faired?

olsaltybastard 05-27-2006 02:40 PM

Can someone clarify this? 250,000 Kilometers, not miles; correct?

Miles would be 155,342.8

Either way, if it were miles, I'm still 30,000 away from a badge.

Jeremy5848 05-27-2006 04:44 PM

Yes, it's km

Awards are for 250,000 -- 500,000 -- 750,000 kilometers and I think there's a 1,000,000 _mile_ award also or something like that. But the little ones are definitely km.

here is the pdf you need:
http://www.mbusa.com/media/downloads/main/heritage/High_Mileage_Application.pdf

The levels of achivements are:
250,000 km / 155,000 miles
500,000 km / 312,000 miles
750,000 km / 468,000 miles
1,000,000 km / 625,000 miles
1,000,000 miles

Thanks for posting the km/mi conversion and plateaus.. I couldn't find mine and wanted to know how many before my second badge. I see I have another 46K miles to go. (also have to update my sig)

Thanks Again!

Send it back!

I suppose it also depends on how much salt they put on the roads in a typical Detroit winter...

However, if that happens to me, I will write Mercedes a _very_ nice letter, absolutely drooling all over the stationery about how wonderful the car has been and how everyone admires the car and its mileage award, etc., etc. and attach a photo of the car, unless it's a wreck, in which case attach a photo of someone else's car [shhh! don't nobody tell!].

Then I'd go on to say how surprised and disappointed I was when the badge started to deteriorate (and I rarely rear-end trucks, and then not too hard), and how I am _sure_ that M-B will _want_ to replace the badge so as not to reflect badly on The Product , etc. and etc. and more etc.

Then pack up the badge with the letter and send it back. I'll bet you get a new one. (Pretend it's a science project. Let us know how it goes.) :D

Be careful, dude. I hear that sometimes Germans can be humorless about things. They might claim the badge has been subject to owner abuse or neglect, was it taken care of according to the manual? Did you change the air in your tires, rotate the hubcaps when you should? There could be a special phone number for this to call, 1-800-CRYBABY:D

Looks like MB has beautified the certificate that comes with the badge. I got mine about a year and a half ago and its just a certificate, looks just like the one the thread starter got but without the illustrations on it. The illustrations look much sharper.

My name is Friday. I carry a badge.

Before the German BPs (BadgePolice, formerly BundesPolezei) get me, I moved it -- see photo. Still smells like barbeque sauce or is that biodiesel?

My badges are starting to fade a little bit. If they get worse, I think MBUSA might send new ones. They sent another one when my original 250K badge fell apart in my hand shortly after receiving it.

I lost one of the retaining nuts for one of the badges when I repainted the grille, anyone know what size to look for at Home Depot?

Jeremy5848 05-28-2006 01:32 AM

Nuts to the man in 3-C

My badge has M5x0.8 threads. I added a second nut on each leg as a lock nut.
