New SL400 CDI ?!?!

Just got the new Automobile. They drove the SL400 CDI.
Ok, there's no plans for production on the bi-turbo monster, but should be releasing the SLK320 CDI in '06 (in Europe ). It's a 282hp 465ft/lb Tri-Turbo version of the diesel V-6 we'll get in the in the ML and the E. The #$@* thing goes 0-60moh in 5.3 and gets 37mpg in mixed hwy/cty .LOL. The only things they didn't like were the diesel clatter and the fact that they can't drive a turbo diesel ("occasionally brutal accelerator tip in and tip out").

Can anyone say "European Delivery Program"??

Mahalo,
-M-

what are you talking about an sl400cdi for?

we want an sl610cdi.

we need a diesel flagship and as long as we're dreaming, it might as well be better than the best gasser they've got!

i guess SLR is better, but thats not production?

Anyone know what these engines are set to rev to? 4500 RPM like the 617.952? And man I can imagine how theyd have trouble driving the thing smoothly, with new cars the throttle by wire crap makes it annoying to take off... hell my dad's torqueless Accord is hard for my leadfoot to get used to, imagine what something with 4 times the torque would drive like.

I am pretty sure our C220cdi wagon we had in germany a couple years ago was a drive-by-wire throttle, and it was smooth as butter, I bet it all depends on the driver.

Yeah espically if they are trying to make the car drive/act like a gasser by adjusting how the pedal affects the engines power.

It takes people a while to get used to driving diesel (not by wire) but in the end...I like it

There is a new version of the 400CDI engine, called the 420CDI - this has 20% more power and 30% more torque than the 400CDI.

This has the same new technology introduced into the V6 320CDI (over the previous inline-6 320CDI), like the piezo-electric injectors that can inject up to 5 charges per power stroke (!).

What is interesting about this V8 engine is that it has a 75-degree cylinder angle.

Not as shade-tree friendly as the 616/617.....

Hey...

I found this a few months ago. Still though, it would be one hell of a car.
