Testing block heater?
This my first winter with this 98 E-300TD and I thought I should make sure the factory block heater, plug and cord were functioning OK.
Can I test this thing with an OHM meter like I do the glow plugs & glow circuit? Should it give a certain resistance value if its in working order? Thanks! |
It should be testable with an ohm meter, or just plug it in and see if it makes it warm etc....
The 606 is pretty advanced, I'd assume it can start in most any temperature w/out a block heater.... |
You can check resistance on the electrical plug of the heater and should be approximately around 0.3 ohm.

Thanks Roman and pawoSD....thats what I was looking for was the Ohm resistance reading of 0.3 ohm.
I probably won't have a cold weather start problem with the 606. The electronically metered pump and injection system on it is light years ahead of the first 84 300SD I had......spent a few cold winter mornings, years ago, tryng to get that thing started.. But I'd rather be sure than sorry on this 98. Cheers, |
