My serpentine belt is stupid.

The belt on mah Ben-ZO is very loose and, subsequently, the alternator/generator does not charge the battery.

I had to get three jumps today while I went about my chores...

Anyway, if you need me, I'll be out in the garage, tightening that belt.....

PS - TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY. I AM NOW OFFICIALLY 18....I USED TO BE ALMOST 18, BUT NOW I REALLY AM...18, THAT IS

Ahhhhhhh. I guess I need to be under the car to reach the alternator...

Dang. I guess I'll have to leave the battery on a charger for tonight, and then work on it first thing tomorrow morning. I have no class or work tomorrow, so I'mma be freeeeeeee to do what ever floats my proverbial boat.

Not trying to be offensive, but if your telling a 18 year old to be carefull under the car, what would you tell a 15 year old?

I'm going to drive it up on some wheel ramps.

With that advice in mind, Nate, I'll replace the belt. Actually, I think I should replace the whole lot of them, for they are ancient and cracked.

Sigh. I don't mind working on the car, but I F*$&%^#% hate spending money.

Good plan. BTW, your car doesn't have a serpentine belt.

240's have a single "V-belt" that drives the alternator and water pump, not a serpentine belt. Those usually drive: PS, A/C, alternator, and water pump all at once with one wide belt looped through everything. (more modern cars)

Just thought I'd make that correction.....

I know that it is not a serpentine belt, I felt like saying that anyway.

There are three seperate belts that I can see. One for the fan, another for the alternator, and one more that is for the starter and water pump (I think it's the water pump...)

My mother's saturn has a serpentine belt.

There should be 3 belts. One for the water pump and alternator, one for the AC compressor, and one for the power steering.

BTW, if the alternator belt was loose, the water pump may have been slipping as well. Was the temp OK?
