350SDL w/ 606.910

Nice package. I wonder how hard it was to adapt the electrics (motor out of 210 car).

Anyone know the details of the catalyst that was installed after the car was re-imported?

If I don't say so myself... That 606 looks sexy in there :ladysman:

Hatterasguy 11-05-2005 05:43 PM

It looks a lot like my car. Notice the "US wiper" conversion!:D

That 606 looks right at home in their, makes me wonder what a turbo charged 606 backed by a 5spd manual would look like in my car...:D

SEXY!

Anyone notice the placement of one of the horns? LOL

Probably louder inside the car than out:dj:

Glinko 11-05-2005 06:21 PM

I'm going to put a horn inside the headrest of my mom's car, and tie it in to her brake pedal.

Hatterasguy 11-05-2005 07:25 PM

Thats it if I ever need to repower my car screw the 603, I want a turbo charged 606!:D

606

I actually drove a 606 for the first time today. It was a 1998 E300D.

WOW!

I wasn't planning to buy a car but I would have bought that car after driving it. We couldn't come together on the price/trade thing. If the $ part worked out, I would have been driving one home today. I think he was OK on his price for the E300, but was nowhere near the right palce on my trade, so it didn't go anywhere. Did get me thinking though maybe I should sell my other car privately and start looking around for an E300D.

I wonder if those more recent diesels are also exempt from smog in CA like my 87 is.... that was something the dealer was unable to tell me for sure. NICE car. Smaller than my 300SDL by a lot, but pretty nice.

I think the 606 in a W126 looks like a natural fit. It seems as if it belongs in that car. The 60x engines are the only diesel engines I want to own, at this point in time. Even with all their quirks. And especially after seeing the abuse they can take. 12 valve head is good for horsepower, 24 valve is better for torque.

The one thing I am leery about: US E300 turbodiesels had 10K mile oil changes on dino oil. Maybe it's sticky rings or something, but the majority of low mileage E300D's I have seen have concerning amounts of blowby(I mean, only 100K miles and there's a visible mist? Looks like a 300SD 617 with 300K miles). They also crack their injectors at high load(at least it sounds like it).

MB specs out Mobil 1 0w40 or 15w50. From what I have seen from oil tests in 603/606's I don't see a problem with 10k mile changes provided synthetic is used. The entire FSS lawsuit was about this.

I know. Synthetic Mobil 1 is fine. The FSS lawsuit protects engines serviced by the new car dealer(since day one, possibly) up to 150K miles, no more AFAIK.

From looking at the records on my E300, the first owner also performed 10K oil changes on dino but a thicker, 15w-40 weight. I also have visible blowby, as I have the CCV mod that vents the CCV gases to the atmosphere. Sometime it's more, sometime it's less. She doesn't appear to use any real measuable amount of oil. So I'm not worried about it whatsoever.
