door panel removal 350sdl

i finally got a free moment to try to fix the rear window that won't go up on the 1991 350sdl.

i followed the instructions on previous posts on the subject and i am still stuck.

i removed the chrome guard, the small screw behind the handle, and the 3 big screws that hold the armrest (which is now off) and finally unscrewed the door lock "button". now at this point, it is supposed to just lift up.

no dice. something is still holding it onto the door. any ideas?

Normally, there are plastic clips around the parameter of the door panel. Gently pull the door panel directly away from the door frame, starting at a lower corner. You may want to use a putty knife or something to avoid braking the clips.

If you pull the door panel directly away from the door on a W126, you'll break the clips. You might need to remove the ashtray and the black insert.

Did you remove the small screw located at the bottom, about midway along the length of the door? I don't think the D or SD cars have that screw from what people tell me, so it may not have been in the writeup, but the SDL has this screw there. HTH. Good luck.

I just did this same job on a '94 W140 and the force to push the panel up was quite substantial. It will push up though.
