Factory fuel pump deadheading?

Hello all. I am still piecing together my 2 tank WVO setup. I am planning on using the factory fuel pump for one fuel and an aux electric pump for the other but I have not made up mind yet which will be which. In any case, the factory pump always pumps with the engine running so if I have the other fuel selected, isn't the factory pump deadheading and is it OK for the pump? Thanks, Eric.

pump deadheading

I'm just guessing: Is the factory pump a diaphragm type? Seems the total work performed by the pump increases when it has no outlet, though I don't know if this would be so serious as to cause early pump failure or not. Is it possible to valve the output of the pump so that it just pumps back into it's fuel tank?
