Question Fuel sender issues ...still

85 300D; 292,000 miles.
Cleaned the fuel sender unit; am still getting innaccurate readings and low fuel light stays on.
Found PO's receipts and a new sender was installed in '00; so; What other issues could be causing this problem?????

"Cleaned the fuel sender unit"

How nasty was it, I assume it was'nt bad? Was there any change after you cleaned the sender?
