driver seat repair - hog wild on hog rings

My wife loves when I have car parts on the dining room table.....just yesterday she walked by and said "what is THAT?" .....hohum...drivers seeat old mercedes...."oh, cool"...Anyway I bought my car from a former prof. football player (New England Patriots)

and he wasn't the punter.....so? I'm working on the driver's seat and I flip it osaver pulkl out a bunch of foam and about 100 hog rings that someone had attemtped to repair the seat with....anyway so I get all that (and a garage type rag thrown in for good measure) out of there and the springs are broken in 6 places! So thnaks to dieselgiant (thnaks man!) I was inspired to fix the broken springs....He used injector line which he had lying around...Me? I bought aluminum sleeves for ~25 cents each at ace hardware!

I fixed 'em all up...can't wait to provide the "seat of the pants" review of the repair

Take a picture of the hog rings too. I'm still wondering what they could possibly be. A new product from White Castle, perhaps?

I was thinking of doing this and using short sections of stainless tube from the auto parts store but the aluminum would be easier to crimp. Can you remove the leather seat cover with the seat in the car and if so how?
thanks

I think some people have done some really nice writeups about every facet of seat rebuilding ... and have posted great pictures...
I don't remember who in particular... I think more than one...
A search should bring up a bunch of great information...

There are a butt-load of hog rings in a typical seat. They are what keeps the whole thing together. I was able to reuse mine without any problems. Didn't have any hog ring pliers though, I made do with a set of off-set needle nose and standard pliers. Used the off-sets to thread the ring and hold it while closing with the standard pliers.

A local farm store should have hog nose rings and pliers. I got mine at Tractor Supply.

I think it would be difficult ot remove the cover with the seat in the car. The seat is easy to remove. If you read my other threads the dining room is where seat repairs should occur

By the way The cuts on my hands indicate that the metal frame of the seat has sharp edges.

That's a great idea. I'll have to look into doing that for myself sometime.

Leathermang stated that there were other threads concerning seat fixing. Do a search on "Pool Noodles" for more info on that.
I think the hog rings look like a better solution.

to clarify my picture is of aluminum spacers a product I purchased at ACE hardware in an effort to coipy dieselgiant's idea of using drilled out fuel injector pipe. Hog rings are stiff bits of wire bent into a ring shape
