battery charger
dropped my trickle charger the other day. automatic shut of capable. not sure if i busted the thing or not. any advice as to how i can check the bugger to see if it is still working. i do have a multimeter. thank you.

The charger, if functional, will still have an output of about 13V or so.
Just plug it in and test it with a voltmeter. Anything north of 12V should be fine. |

Unless it is a smart charger. I have one that does some kind of sensing to make sure that there is a battery type load connected to it. I tried to use it as a 13V power supply once with no luck. I checked the output with a multi meter and it read 0V, but if I clipped it to a battery it ran right up to around 13.5V. It is also smart enough that it drops to a trickle charge after the current into the battery drops to a certain point.
The cheapo Walmart/Tractor supply charger puts out a nice 13V or 6.5V even with nothing connected to it. -Tad
