Diesel Fuel Question
I read that water in WVO will ruin your IP because it will become gas at the high pressures in your IP and pit it and slowly/quickly ruin it. I do not doubt this. What keeps water out of dino diesel? What keeps condensation from forming in the tank?
Thanks, just curious. |

Tabor,
Water won't change to "gas" in the injection pump. But it is corrosive and can cause rusting of the internal parts. With the minute tolerances of the plungers and barrels in the IP, it doesn't take much rust to destroy an IP. Water does form in Dino Diesel tanks. What I can't understand is why MB doesn't use the fuel filter anymore that separated the water from the fuel and had a drain to remove the water. P E H |

"Turning to gas" = cavitation.

Most of my Bosch MFI pump rebuild experience has been on Porsches but water damage showed up the same on the diesel pumps. The plungers were dull and pitted instead of highly polished and the barrels had score marks. It will be interesting to see the pump internals after 150,000 miles of use with WVO.
