W124 300D can be a money pit

I had a feeling this would happen so I don't need "told you so's". I bought my 87 300D even after knowing these cars can be trouble.
So I bought the car back in August and it's been needing one thing after another. I started rebuilding the front end Saturday and found I also need new shocks. The tranny leaks from some unknown seal. It was running hot a few months ago and had a oil pressure gauge problem. The interior trim also needs attention.
One of the things that keeps me attached to the car is the fact what sedan of this size will get me 35 MPG's? I also like the power of this beast. I've found while some things are a bear to work on, others are not. For example, it's not that hard to change the ball joints or tie rods on it. Glow plugs OTH is tough.
I did get this car for a good price, for what I would have expected to pay for a W123 diesel in worse shape. If I couldn't have done what I have had done so far myself it wouldn't have been a good deal at all. I would have dumped it for whatever I could get for it to minimise my losses.
I have this forum to thank for all the help and $$ saved so far.

Any old car is going to need work to get it right.

take a few days

off. drink a beer. take your honey to the movies. and when you feel less blue about it go back to work on the car.

or sell it.

i think you are prob just down a little. maybe tired or have a mild case ot the flu.

you will feel better soon

Well, the car itself is blue.
Yeah, I'm going to take a few days off. Good thing next Saturday I've got a wedding to attend so that'll keep my mits off the mechanicals in that car.
