Sagging hood pad a problem?

My hood pad is sagging right above my throttle linkage. If this is a problem, what sort of adhesive should i use?

be careful as you touch it as it has decades of oil soaked in it.

I found that cardboard + zip ties works wonders for holding up that pesky edge.

Mine got doused when my oil lines broke and I am not going to replace it until all oil/power steering seepage is gone.

The SD has one of the generic pads without the heat shield. It's not quite the quality of the more expensive pad but seems to hold up fine.

Likewise.

My hood pads failure was not related to having the heat shield or not

I would go with whatever you like...I don't think in a properly ventilating engine in a reasonable climate, the heat shield is nessesary

What is the purpose of a hood pad at all? Dampen the noise maybe? Both of my cars' pads have long since departed. Is it something serious that I should address soon?

Merely dampens noise and makes the hood sound a lot nicer when it closes

If mine dissapeared on the SD...I would replace it.

THe 240D doesn't sound so nice without its pad.

There is also a concern that the engine heat will eventually damage the paint on the hood. The hood pads with heat shields have them located over the exhaust manifold/turbo.

Now I've gone and stared the great "I don't need no stinkin' hood pad" debate again.

True. Well I replaced both hood pads on my 300SDs with the more expensive one that MB switched to in 1985. I want to have whatever the added benefits of the more expensive hood pad are - one of which is the increased heat protection provided by the aluminum patch.

Use 3M 8090 adhesive, not a substitute.
