Different trannies on a 300D turbo???
Both trannies are supposed to be from a 300D turbo, the one w/o othe detachable bellhousing was connected to the '79, so i know its "right"...but the other one, is a mercedes tranny, but wtf??? any info would be greatly appreciated http://www.geocities.com/r_swaynie/300D_Trannies.html

did you ask
the salvage yard guy to check his interchange book? it wil tell.
otherwise i would look at the tranny and see if all the interface points between the car and tranny are the same. if they are i would probably put it in. is it from same year? tom w |

The "other" one is from a later model 123. I do not know the exact date that the change was made but it is referred to as a six bolt pan tranny versus the earlier 4 bolt pan.

if they dont know squat
then you arent talking to the right salvage yard guys.

The switch was sometime around 1981 or 82. My 83 Coupe came with a 78-80 300SD engine in it, bolted to the 83's transmission. Not all the bolt holes lined up, so whoever did the work only used 3 or 4 bolts to hold it in, which did hold but the thing almost fell out on me when I was removing it thinking there were still upper bolts holding it in.

thanx for the info...if thers anyone with more info, id appreciate it....is one better than the other, any differences except the obvious different tailhousing and detachable bellhousing...and is the one w/ the removable bellhousing the newr or older one.......t wal, yeah it must b nice to live somewhere that salvage yard guys can do more than just tell you how much a part is......i have found that web pages based on certain products w/ enthusiasts is the best place to search for knowledge

the precise
answer will be in terms of from such serial # to such serial #. this info may or may not come from someone on this forum. it is not i dont think normal infor for a do it yourselfer to have. some folks here are actual professionals though and may chime in with that infor for you.

To find out what a prticular MB transmixer fits, you need to take the info off the machined area just above the pan on the right side. There should be 2 sets of numbers. One is the part # which usually isn't much help. The other set of #s goes like this: 722.xxx. Those 6 #s will tell you what it fits when looked up on trans fiche. There is also a serial # which may be important in a cross over year.
