Do I have it? do I need it? where is it? what does it do?
Should I take it out? and if yes how and why? help Thanks |
Open recall on removal
The trap oxidizer is on a recall for removal. It tends to get clogged and stuff from inside the trap can break loose and pass through the engine. It is a big coffee can looking thing about eight inches in diameter that comes off the exhaust and goes to the turbo (passenger side of the engine).
A MB dealer can remove it. Just call in your vin and they will verify that it is part of the recall. |

Thank you for your help

As part of the trap oxidizer recall MB installs an oxidation catalyst in the exhaust system downstream of the turbo. It'll look like your Diesel has a catalytic converter. This device can also clog and cause problems.

Yeah no kidding, I would also like to know how you can check or replace it. Can I remove it altogheter? Dieseles do not require smog check in California, but I don't want to damage my car or the envirnment :rifle:

Just got my wife's '87 back from the dealer. They replaced the entire exhaust system including the turbo. No charge. Photo of service invoice attached. Great service from Smothers European in Santa Rosa.
