Where is the tank strainer???
I have a 1983 240D that I am running on biodiesel that recently started having severe acceleration problems. It will not go about 5 mph, tops. We changed both engine fuel filters to no avail, and so some folks had suggested changing the tank filter/strainer. However, no one has mentioned where it is, or how to access it. Likewise, my Hanes manual does not appear to have info on the strainer. Can someone please direct me?
Thanks, Patrick |

It screws into the bottom of the tank, there is a rubber hose coming directly out of it, pointing down.
46mm hex will remove it, channel locks if you are careful. You might want to remove your gas cap and blow a shot of compressed air back thru the fuel line that goes to your primary filter. If there's any spinach in your tank, it will dislodge it long enough to let you decide if that's really the problem.

Look above the right and left side of the differential. I don't remember which side it is on.

Empty your tank before you go farting about with the strainer.

There will be no need to bleed the fuel system. It will "self bleed" when you remove the strainer. After you finish cleaning it just screw it back in and put fuel in the tank.
