Cruise loves to work...When parked...LOL

Hello all,

well, I just got the darn cruise components replaced on my SD, and low and behold...no worky...The actuator will operate the throttle, but it will not stay at any speed. The actuator will depress the pedal if I sit there and hold the accel on the cruise selector. Here's the kicker: it works even in park, and it continues to hold down the throttle after letting go of the selector! I then press the brake and it lets off instantly. What kind of gremlins are these? Since this was a Canadian car, could my US speedometer be causing problems? meesa kinda out of ideas...Any other suggestions?

Many will say the amplifier but I just had a similar issue on my SD. Don't know what it did in park. I could set the cruise and it would kind of hold speed with my foot on the pedal. It would also try to hold speed if I kept the cruise control stalk in acc. but eventually fail. I didn't try this too often as I didn't want to fry the amp.

Eventaully I swapped out the amp. with a known good one and damn if I didn't have the same problem.

My problem was the actuator. Bought one for $15 at the local boneyard. Replaced it last weekend and have had no problems.

I wish my 300SD would accel the engine with the cruise switch when parked
Would be SOOO handy to have when you want to run about 1000-1100RPM to keep the oil pressure high, cool the engine, run the AC, whatever...

My cruise works fine. Needs more options

Well, I still have been moping around about this whole issue, and I finally went ahead and replaced all of the components again. The amp and the actuator are both off of a known-good MB cruise system, and it still does the same thing. I beginning to think that the speed sensor is different in the Canadian version. I guess I'll dig more tonight...arrgh...
