Lubro-moly Diesel purge...local source for many here.

You guys are not going to believe who is carrying what looks like the full line of Lubro-moly products...

Advance auto of all places. $6.95 for the 500ml cans (half quart) of Diesel Purge, bought two tonight, just got back from there. Heads up to avoid overpaying on E-bay for the stuff.

LM Diesel Purge is CRAP, IMO..

I've witnessed the difference after a dose of Red Line DFC or 85+

I know other mechanics here will concur with me about Lubro Moly's cleaner products..Go for Red Line!

The first time I used Diesel Purge in my '82 300D, there was a "night & day" difference in the way the engine performed. It ran smoother and developed significantly more power. And the appearance of the return fuel certainly suggested that something was doing some cleaning. My wife, who knew nothing about what I had done, noticed a big difference when she drove the car. She came back from an errand asking "What did you do to that car?"

But maybe it was just a complete and total coincidence.

I think so, even the cans that I bought recently over here now say Liqui-Moly. I guess the manufacturer renamed itself. I buy my Diesel Purge from Rusty at $10 per can. Never heard of Advanced Auto.

Yes, it's the same a Liqui-Moly. Advance recently merged with Discount Auto Parts. In my experience, Diesel Purge can help with slightly dirty injectors but anything really serious won't be affected by it.

As for Aaron's comments, I have to wonder if he's ever used it correcty on a car that could benefit from it. He a professional technician, and every pro I've ever seen post about this stuff says they just fill the spin-on fuel filter with the stuff and let it run through. Of course, most of the purge then just runs through the fuel system a single time and then gets sent off to the fuel tank where it is diluted by the fuel. To use this stuff properly, you must disconnect both the supply and return lines, dunk both into the can, and run the engine on it until the purge is used up. This takes about 20 minutes of standing there baby sitting the car and changing the engine speed periodically. Not to disparage Aaron at all, but I can't see any pro actually doing that when they could be doing some "real work" making money.

I've always taken the top off (literally the entire top) one can ran hoses into it and poured the second can into that as it was consumed....

First can has always gotten pretty dark....second can not as dark...then changed the filter with a fresh one just after.

Well, since there's confusion I had to go out to the garage and check. The last batch of 4 cans I bought from Fastlane says Liqui. That's the company's name anyway, so maybe they're in the process of dropping the Lubro name in the U.S.

Bone - do you stand there and hold the can the whole time? Seems like if you set it down in the engine bay it would splash out all over.

no...my engine runns smoth enough it doesn't slpash at all, on eihter car...I nestle it in between the hoses and frame rail...it stays put. I always run two cans worth when I do it...thats a lot of time to be standing there holding a can.
