Thanksgiving is for family, and cars!

Hi,

Just thought I'd post this nice picture. The last few days I've been up at my grandmother's house in Peoria, IL, and this was the first time I'd visited them there since getting my 300TD last year. Part of the reason I bought it in the first place is because I had fond memories of being driven around as a small child in my grandparent's cars.

So we took a picture of my '82 300TD (260k) alongside her '79 300D (159k), with us standing in between. Three generations of Mercedes. Not pictured, my grandfather and his beautiful red '77 240D (w/ OM617 upgrade), he's not able to drive any more, and the car is in a car storage/museum in a nearby city that he owns partial interest in (and owns several of the display cars). The '77 240D once belonged to my grandmother's first husband, who died when I was a child. He left her the car, so she had two. She then gave it to her second husband, my current grandfather, who put the 5 cylinder turbodiesel engine in it. The two cars are very well taken cared for, since both my grandmother's husbands were diesel engineers at Caterpillar. They really put mine to shame in terms of appearance and maintainence, but they were happy to see mine and ride around in it, and they were glad I was following the tradition of the family.

Have a happy thanksgiving, everyone!

Peace,
Sam

P.S. The red '77 240D w/ OM 617 may be for sale soon, my grandfather can't drive anymore, and is realizing that it is a little impractical to store a bunch of cars he can't use. I might buy it (hehe), but if not, I'll probably list it here for him. Its got 137,000 miles on it (about the same # of miles on the donor engine/tranny), everything on it works, and the interior and exterior are in 'pristine' condition, no rust, perfect body, no accidents, etc. Its a great car. I'll post more info here if he decides for sure to sell it. Let me know if you are specifically looking for a car like that, and I'll get you more info or pictures..
