Did put a boost controller into the line going to the turbo on SPARKY THE DIESEL, my 1983 300 S D cause it was easier to adjust the boost level....rather than the stock garrett boost limiter. Setting the boost to 12 lbs (up 4 pounds over the old stock setting with the tired old springs) did not get any improvement in turbo spool up or increase the off idle acceleration. But when she hits boost about 1800, the old girl does lift up her skirts and moves out. Almost as good as a gasser. Also makes the car safer to drive in Dallas traffic.

Spec for a 603.96 is .85-.95 bar. Overboost switch trips at 1.1 bar.

One benefit of a boost controller IMO is to have boost come on more quickly. In theory the wastegate goes from closed to open over a boost range rather than all at once at a setpoint. A boost controller holds the boost signal from the wastegate actuator until a preset point at which it sends a full signal to the wastegate actuator. So where the wastegate starts to leak and impede the build-up of boost in a factory set-up, a boost controller allows boost to build under its own momentum right up to the set-point. Well, I think this is a good thing. There should be a noticeable difference with a boost controller even without raising the boost limit.
