Time Capsules - Leave notes for future owners?

Hi,

My grandmother's 79' 300D has a little problem. Its seat belt buzzer goes off as long as the car is on, and the seatbelt isn't in, instead of going off for a moment, then shutting off. This makes getting in and out of the car very annoying. The solution is to replace the seat belt warning relay. However, that relay is almost 80$, and my grandmother never forgets her belt. I'm thinking of just short circuiting the sensor, so that the car always thinks the belt is in. This would give my dear grandmother some respite from the noise.

HOWEVER, and this is my real question, I don't want to mess the car up for future owners or mechanics who may come along to do a 'real' repair. I'm thinking of writing a note and attaching it to the relay that says, "Are you here to replace this relay? It does need replacement, but I also shorted the sensor wire right below the seatbelt clasp, with a yellow wire nut, you'll need to reconnect that wire in order for the new relay to function."

Has anyone here ever left a "Time Capsule" in their car for a future owner? Anyone ever find a note like that? Ever wish that the PO had LEFT a note like that?

peace,
sam

With regard to the seat belt buzzer, the easiest way to defeat it is to unplug the wire to the seat belt buckle under the drive's seat so it thinks the belt is always buckled. The light still works, buzzer the gone. It also retains the buzzer warning for leaving the headlights on.

I've never thought of leaving a "Time Capsule." I'm really not planning on selling my cars, anyway. One of my car's POs lift various little notes in the owner's manual.

If you leave notes telling future owners about the vehicle you'll take all the fun out of fixing it for them!

That's a very thoughtful idea.

Even for those not planning to sell...
you're going to die, someday.
( maybe tomorrow? )

Found a 6 inch long hat pin....had to explain what it was to my son-in-law and again to my grandson....gosh, I feel old. They had the "no eyed deer" what the heck I was talking about. But explained that in earlier times, when ladies actually wore hats, the purpose for the pin. And the secondary use for the pin was for corrective action on some brash, young blade (wolf). Then I had to explain that. The very idea of some sweet young lady actually avoiding some "fresh" young man's advances, instead of today of the female chasing after the male.

Ah, yes, the changes I've seen in my tenure here on planet earth.

Regards

Ah, Run-Em, I always treasure your humorous responses.

I wonder, actually, the lifespan of photographs attached to one's time capsules. If you think of all the cool old pics in y'all family albums, wouldn't it be fun to find, say, a note about the relay fix with a pic of the owner with the car way back in 2005? I wonder the shelf life of Polaroid/35mm/printed digital pics in this regard, I think I'll leave a snapshot of the shiny 300SD in front of my 1930s house and really make them scratch their heads...

That is such a kind idea.

I wish I had that, I wouldn't have spent so much time and money trying to figure out why the CD changer that came with my car wasn't producing any sound.

Haha how true. Particularly under the back seats, it seems. Kids, no doubt.

It amazes me the credit card receipts I've found in cars I've bought.
