W116 Parts Into W-123 ?

So , my buddy , upon learning I've developed the Diesel sickness , is giving me his old 1979 300SD ~ it has 108K miles on it and supposedly looks mighty fine but not running at the moment .

What can I use off this car in my 1979 300CD or 1981 240D ? .

I really need a good W-123 grille and carpets etc. but I dunno if they'll fit .

Car is located in Riverside , Ca. and needs towing plus he lost the key (of course)

i dunno

from experience but i doubt the grill is same. ditto carpets although they might be close enough to work. mechanical parts willwork to a large extent. engine parts will interchange prob. ditto tranny and brake parts. depending on year. if same year many will and some years wont.

have fun

vwnate1,

You mean you are going to destroy a perfectly good 300SD for a few parts? That's sick. YOU should be banned from any MB for life and made to drive a Yugo.

Good thing you can't drive it-you'd be using the other 2 for parts to fix it, LOL!

PEH is right.

You should be thinking more like "What parts can I borrow from my W123s to give this rare rustfree CaliCar W116 with only 108K miles a new life?"

Why isn't it running? On the surface that sounds better than the non-running W116 I fetched from San Bernadino last year.

I'd imagine that lack of key is a major reason why it isn't running. Might be able to flush out the fuel system, unhook the shutoff hose, put it on a dolly and tow start it. At least that's what I would do the first day I owned such a car.

Unhappy Cherry But Junk W-116

Yeah , I'd _love_ to fiddle with it and make run etc. but I have way too many old cars and motos now plus no place to store it off the street ~ hell , I gotta stash my 300CD down in South Central L.A. 'cause the local cops where my house is will pick it up PDQ and _still_ make me pay all the $45.00 parking tickets too ~ no overnight street parking , period .

It sux but it's a junker and my buddy wants it gone ASAP , too bad .

Besides why the heck would I fix a sedan when I have this nifty coupe ? .

well

maybe one of those passionate 116 lovers will take the bod off your hands after you pull the motor. god knows there are plenty of them out there with great mechanicals and rusty bods.

Hell ;

I don't want the engine nor running gear ! my backyard looks like Kentucky now , full of old engines and dead motos etc. plus all the bikes and cars .

Besides , it's a turbo , one more thing to break or wear out ~ no thanx , I'll wheeze along slowly in my N/A 300CD thankyouverymuch .

I've not even seen it yet ~ I'll go see ifn it has a good Becker radio and Hirschman antenna I cas use and maybe the carpets & trunk liners etc.

He allready took out the ' aluminum fuel tank ' (? extra tank maybe?) and electric radiator fan...

If I'm lucky , it'll have an owner's book in the glove box .

I need a toolkit & jack handle too ~ how to open the surely locked trunk sans key ? .

TIA ,

The way I saw it done at the boneyard was to beat in the lock cylinder with a drift. Took some pounding but didn't damage anything else.

After that, I liberated a nice set of W116 euro bumpers. If you ever saw one of these beauties in its natural state, I am sure you would want to save it.

Post Savng the W-116 300SD

Yeah , I know they're very pretty but since I grew up I no longer need sedans ~ I'm not the Designated Driver for all my partyer freinds anymore .

I bought my W-123 Coupe to replace SWMBO's _cherry_ 240D sedan as she wants to let the kids ride in it and they allready tore up the back seat of her cherry Toyletta Corrola . none of that crap on my watch .

There's loads of any typ of M-B Diesels for sale down here in L.A. ' On The Cheap ' all the time ~ hell , I see better cars in the Pick-A-Part yards than I do on the street ! . wierd .

I've not heard anyone stepping up to pay anything for this car to save it or take it away for the sure to be good engine & turbo etc......

-I- certainly don't want it , only because I have no place to put it and no way to tow it if I did .
