Why the XJ model??

Great, another absurdly expensive European diesel sedan. Who will make an affordable and economic diesel vehicle for the unwashed masses and actually import it to the US?

Oh, who??

i'm in line with pagodalover, make one the masses can aford and get it in the us of a. we are afteral the largest auto consuming market on the globe and we have the credit debt to prove it!!

I am hoping Toyota will bring an affordable one here. The Yaris coming to the US next year. Overall the package isn't terrible looking if you want a cheap hatchback, it looks quite cute.

I wonder if it will be offered in the diesel variant that is the best seeling import over in Europe? Probably not, we still want big fancy mega comfort cars to carry us through our progressively uglier, more dangerous and public service lacking world.

That engine would be very much in character with the Land Rover vehicles, torque being more important in offroading than sheer horsepower.

This should not be far-fetched, because the new Range Rovers already have the Jaguar V8 petrol engine.

$10k for a new car? That reminds me of that god awfull Kia they used to sell for under $10k. Sure it would get you their but what a crud little pos. I'd rather buy a used real car. $10k will get you a pretty new Camry or Accord.

Take your quote and put in the 80's... and call it a $40,000 "SD" or a $30,000 "D". Or ask GM to make a affordable diesel for the masses.. what a great project that was.

Good point, but would it kill Toyota to put a nice 170hp+/- diesel in the Camry as an option? It will never happen the general public just doesn't want diesels. With fuel down a bit people will forget quick and go back to buying SUV's.
