2 down in 2 days!!! Wrecked my car tonight - probably totalled

rear ended a freaking chevy colbalt tonight and my car, 82 300d, sustained the damage, the colbalt just has a few scratches. 2 cars decide to make a right turn on red onto a busy highway while its raining at 6pm. the 1st car had enough time to pull out but probably shouldnt because of the slick roads but the next car didnt seem to even bother looking and followed the first car right out onto the highway then the first car decides to make a quick right into a closed used car lot for some reason and the lady who followed him out onto the highway almost rearends the first car and i hit my breaks and slide about 10 ft into the back of her car and smacked my front end up.

my bumper must of ducked out of the way because my grill took the impact. my hood is crumpled, radiator bled all its fluid out and my oil cooler is busted because it spewed oil all over the front of what used to be my grill.

other than that nothing else looks ****ed up. the tow truck wanted to take it to an autobody shop but i told her to take it to my backyard so i can bury it haha. no point in taking it to the shop if my insurance probably wont pay to have it fixed....theyll probably just total it. so im hoping its not that bad and i can find donor parts and make a frankenbenz. ill post pics tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Sorry about your loss but I'll never understand why people tailgate, especially in hazardous conditions,
when we know 30,000 people are gonna die on the highway every year?

We're interested. This is a trend that does not need to continue.

STAY IN DOORS!!! haha this really sucks. im a real estate agent so 75% of my job is driving around and i dont have any money right now for a new car. im hoping i can just find parts and piece it back together and run it for a little while longer. i really enjoyed driving that car :(

I had an '82 300 D Turbo that fell victim to a deer back in 1999. Damaged the right front fender, crumpled the hood, ruined the timeless Mercedes grille, and poked a few holes in the radiator. I was able to piece her back together and drive her for a few more years. Good luck!

I'm considering cutting back on my driving when I get my brother's '84 300D, maybe doing a lot more driving in the bimmer. As I was driving home today I had several car lengths between my car and the one in front and it would still make me jump when someone would slow down. Its been a week to the day since my car was hit and I guess I'm still gunshy. It wasn't even my fault but I'm still jumpy.

Veloce300DT 11-30-2005 01:06 AM

I'll second that!

Its been 3 weeks since I was rear ended. Ive been driving the C280 most of the time, and every time I see brake lights in front of me I jump, and every time someone looks like they might pull out in front of me or into me I honk, even if im actually quite a ways away. Ive become paranoid!

Luckily I won my battle with the ins. company and will be having my 300DT repaired, but I dont think I'll be driving it as much once shes back to normal. Id rather have the C280 become a victim to some slop headed driver!

Keep on rollin!

Two words to live by these days: Defensive Driving.

Being paranoid while driving is the natural, sensible reaction,
as long as there are other vehicles in your vicinity.
Unfortunately, we become jaded to the dangers and start ignoring them.

I've been riding a motorcycle for 10 years.
This tends to help keep your awareness level elevated,
since the same circumstances which might result in no bodily injuries for a motorist,
could result in death for me.

YOu will be paranoid and jumpy for a while....with time that will diminish...trust me. Many of us have been through this before.

LOL, there's nothing like a close call on a motorcycle to focus your attention for a while.

That looks, to me, like it can be fixed for a reasonable cost. New hood, grill, radiator, oil cooler, aux. fan, and headlight assemblies. Straighten fender and radiator support, and paint. Did the radiator push into the engine? Any damage to water pump, fan, etc.?
