Electrical enigma

  My 85 300tdt now has no operating windows. First the drivers side went out and about a month after the passanger side and rear window behind the driver. To make matters worse my line to the radio and interior lights just went out. The fuses are all functioning and I have power to them. Anyone had anything like this happen to them? Thanks

I had what were good looking fuses also. None severed. But what did occur was a ring of burning/corrosion on the bullet end of the fuse that did allow interuption of the electrical current. Look at the ends. You might try and polish them with some fine sandpaper or simply replace. Might have to polish some on the fuse holder also.

If the fuses are involved, the windows would be diagonally affected, ex: drivers front and passenger rear window. Windows across from each other sounds like a wiring or switch gremlin. Did you spill something on the switches?

I tried 2 new switches to no avail. And why now would my interior light/radio circuit also quit? Weird:confused:

I'm guessing fuses too. Get some emery cloth and clean/replace fuses and clean the fuse holders. A dab of NOALOX on the ends wouldn't hurt.

Or use dielectric grease....which is what I have done for years...keeps air away and oxidation at bay.

Correction

Had my brother in law check the fuses. He checked the wrong ones. Both window A & B plus the to top row are out. The bottom row is the only place I have power. I attempted to see what was going on from under the front dash. Just a mess of wires. Does anyone have any experience with the fuse box? Thanks.

I bet your fuse box has a label in it identifying which fuses protect which devices. Don't rule out the "ice cube" relays - sometimes they make but no longer reliably transmit current.

Where are these " Ice cube relays" located?

OK, the fact that the "A" and "B" fuses are not getting power tells us something. There is a relay upstream of these fuses. According to my wiring diagram, fuse 12 provides power to that relay (and other things). Try replacing fuse 12 and see what happens.

Thanks, I'll try replacing fuse # 12 now

Craig, your the BEST!!!!! That was it. I cleaned the terminals and the fuse. I have been without a working window since Sept. My sunroof was my only form of ventilation. My wife refused to ride in the car. (maybe that's a good thing). Thanks again. PS If you ever come to NYC, I owe you a few drinks.

Glad it worked out.:)
