40mpg? Wow

It never ceases to amaze me how Mercedes was able to extract 40mpg out of the 123 body cars, simply amazing.

They measured it over a short stretch of a steep downhill run from the top to the bottom of Pikes peak....

You've got to wonder how many of those people run out of fuel, especially if they go by miles....."I just put in 18 gallons, thats enough for over 700 miles!"

....500ish miles later at the side of the road...... :D :D ;)

Glinko 12-02-2005 09:09 AM

This is retarded.

You are correct, running out of fuel would be "retarded" for a car.

Definition of retarded:

V. A slowing down or hindering of progress; a delay.

Exactly what happens when out of fuel or running out! :D ;)

ncof300d 12-02-2005 09:59 AM

Which is more disturbing.......false listing for 40mpg or bad math..perhaps it is both.

boneheaddoctor 12-02-2005 10:01 AM

THese clowns make the most sleazy used car dealers almost look good in comparison with these BS claims.

Biodiesel300TD 12-02-2005 11:18 AM

I saw another grey CD on autotrader a while back that claimed 40-45mpg. The odometer didn't work either, so how would they even know what the real milage is. Maybe they to the 15 or so mpg they get with the broken odometer and add it to the 25 or so they really get for a total of nearly 40mpg.

Either that or if they repeat it enough times they come to believe it.......this is one time the power of positive thought does NOT work.

40mph from a 123 is not much more optimistic than the some EPA ratings for cars that are rated using the EPA drive cycle that assume you won't drive faster than 56 mph...

yeah but some people might actually get the EPA rated milage....nobody here has ever seen close to 40 MPG on any W123.

DieselAddict 12-02-2005 12:56 PM

I feel this 40+ mpg and million-mile car notion is a full-blown epidemic on Ebay. Just about every Ebay listing of an MB diesel has this propaganda. Sure these engines are efficient and durable, but come on, this has gone out of control:rifle: .
