Where do I look?
I have a 87 TDT which has developed an oil leak. It looses about a quart in a couple weeks. It appears to be comming from somewhere in the front of the engine but very hard to tell. I have checked the head and it seems to be dry up that far. There is a little black around the turbo area but it is very hard to see with all the stuff that is bolted on that side of the engine. Are there specific places that would be good to check first? I have searched the forums with no success. Could it be timing cover or turbo related? The car runs perfect and works good and has about 115,000 miles on it. Any help would be great on this.

I would try to start from the puddle and work back to the source.
I recently found an oil leak right through the oil level sending unit. I degreased and cleaned the oil pan so I could see where the oil was coming from. It also helps to slide a piece of cardboard under the car and leave it there overnight. Come back in the morning and see where it dripped then try to trace it back from there. If I hadn't cleaned everything real good I would never have found the source though. Does it leak when it's parked or only when it's running?

It appears to leak when parked. Although driving is hard to check

See if it leaks more sitting at an idle rather than just parked. Should perhaps get front of engine washed off to help you possibly locate source. Do not forget could be front crankshaft seal so if cleaning engine down get lower portion of block clean as well. Hard to find if not impossible with everything in area coated in dirt and oil.
