zerostart and the gfi

can't get the garage outlet to handle the zero. the gfi keeps tripping. it is a 15 gfi and was just minutes ago replaced with a 20 that also tripped when plugged in. it isn't the zero as i got it replaced at checker as a warrenty return since it wasn't getting as hot as a new one(you shoulda seen the smoke). so now the electrician is going to put a standard no gfi outlet out there. the zero works when plugged into the kitchen non gfi but its really inconvienent.

its plugged in and warming fine but code requires the gfi so it looks like to be able to heat a car i have to be out of code.

The GFI trips because the hot leg and the neutral are getting about 5 miliamps of potential difference. A GFI is not the same as a breaker in the main panel. The GFI's whole purpose is to prevent you from dying from a shock. You may have a short in the wiring or your actual block heater element.

got a new zerostart. tried it on two different electric cords and both ripped the gfi. direct plug in works better. now to get the car started tomorrow morning.
