AC in Rear - Climate help

Hi,

I have an ACC problem. I always get cold air coming from the back vent (as if AC is continuously running) and all air flows through defrost vents regardless of setting. Is this likely to be a monovalve prob or controller prob or vacuum prob? Any comments on the most likely culprit will be much appreciated!

thanks!

edit: should have noted that otherwise the thermostatic control seems to keep temp OK - it's just that my feet and kids in the back are a tad chilly...

Vacuum...

Definately, vacuum. The default is (no vacuum) full defrost and (no electric) full heat.

The rear vent in my SDs is fresh air only. The only way to get heat to the rear seats is thorugh the footwell vents that have a air duct that goes under each seat although I don't know that I have ever noticed heat coming out of them.

I'm not sure which vehicle this is but I think I saw a tdt in your signature before I started replying.
If this is the 123 body then the vacuum main line runs in behind the center console to the distribution valves. The valves open and close according to the directions given by the ACC controller (power on, power off). The valves when open then allow vacuum to the pods that control the flaps to the various outlets in teh car.

You can track down the connection under the hood first to see if you are getting vacuum to the main fee line but from there you have to go diving behind the radio and the center console if I remember correctly.

Esit: Oh are you in luck. If your 86 SDL is the same as my SDs then the vacuum valves are located down the right hand side of the console and are accessible by pulling the passenger side kick panel and carpet. They then are laid out vertically down the side of the console with just enough room to get to them. There's been quite a few posts about trouble shooting these and their functions if you do a search for vacuum valves you should get soemn relevant hits beside the vacuum valve on top of the valve cover...

That vent is controlled by a cable to the lever below it. Did you try moving the lever? If that doesn't work, maybe the cable became disconnected from the actuator. remove the ashtray drawer and/or money tray and you should be able to see it.
