1984 300d Turbo Electrical problem

I bought this car last November but have only recently got her in traveling shape. I would crank her every so often but would mostly have to charge the battery first. I have finally narrowed down the battery drain problem when I finally noticed the following odd behavior. The Becker radio doesn't work but every 30 seconds or so I can hear a relay engaging and a scratching sound come from the driver's side dash speaker. This is without the key even in the ignition. I have made sure the antenna control is in the off position so the antenna motor doesn't run. Does this sound like it could be anything else besides a dead radio still operating a relay with all the power off? Thanks for any help.

sounds likely...the only way you are getting a sound from the speaker is via the radio amp....the radio has a fuse in the rear of it...pull the fuse or unplug the radio. if its toast it could have an excessive drain on the power via the lead that has power all the time thats not on switched DC. Worth a try anyway.

Thanks! I'll give that a try when I get home this evening or tomorrow. I would also like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all the posters on this forum. I had major work (for me) that I performed on this car recently and most of it wouldn't have been possible without the advice from this forum.
