That Charming ACC Head!

Greetings!
I have my ACC head out of the car and am trying to check it out. I have been looking at the DIY page about "Fixing that...control". Question: How do I get inside the control? I have the top cover off and I can see the top of the circuit board. Are there other circuit boards inside and if so, how do I get it open? Do I need to pull all of the front buttons off (defrost, ec, etc) and pull that face plate off? I am afraid I will break the buttons off. The solder joints that are supposed to be checked, are they on the top of the circuit board or are they inside the box?

My symptons are, my A/C will work if I turn it to max. If I set the thermostat to max heat, I can feel heat in the cabin vents but the fan will not come on. Sometimes in the afternoon, or when the car is warm from the sun, the Defrost will blow max and hot. If I go to any other setting, the blower stops.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard dw.
I am assuming you are talking about the W123. I have found that typically there is more than one issue with the climate control system on these cars. One of your symptoms indicates to me that ether the sensor that is mounted in the evap duct behind the pushbutton unit/radio area is bad or the in-cabin temp sensor is bad. Try to get a resistance reading accross them and if one of them is open replace it. I have had the best luck just having the pushbutton units rebuilt. Do a search on here - there are a couple places you can send them off to. If you are interested in coming over one weekend and let's take a look at the system just pm or email me.
