W123 Fire Extinguisher Bracket

Hello,
I won this item on eBay, and I'm wondering if anyone else has one. I did a search, and it looks like a few people have them on newer Benzes, but not the W123s. Ever since I started tinkering with the EGR and related parts, I've been meaning to get a small CO2 fire extinguisher, just in case. Can anyone recommend a particular brand or model?

Thanks,
Nate

W123 Fire Extinguisher Bracket

I have one in my 123 wagon mounted in front of the drivers seat. I don't know if it was a factory installation or if the PO installed it. (I'm the 2nd owner) It's a grey market car from Holland. Do a search on ebay.de for the CO2 cannister. Pay close attention to the latch mechanism. Mine broke and I need a replacement.

Why would anyone need a fire extinguisher in a Mercedes diesel? The only time I would think you'd one is to put out someone else's fire or if your wiring was in bad shape.

I have the bracket and extinguisher in my car. I found the bracket at the junkyard and an extinguisher on ebay. I need to get the extinguisher recharged but other then that, it looks nice. Just so you know, I don't think any extinguisher you buy at a store will fit properly, so the german ebay will probably be the only place you find the rich extinguisher. I think there are a few listed right now.

You know, W126s have a fire hazard. If you don't vacuum out the leaves under the master cylinder, a hot resistor in that trough can cause accumulated leaves to catch fire, and burn. As for wiring, just ask Carrameow, plus these are old cars, the wiring isn't like new. As the gentleman in the previous post stated, emptying a fire extinguisher into the intake of a runaway engine will stop it. Those are all good reasons to carry a fire extinguisher in an old diesel MB.

Look here, though it's a gasser.

Exactly. When I disabled the EGR, I also removed the vacuum controls that sit on the engine, the butterfly valve in the intake, and associated accelerator linkage. It would be nice to have a little "insurance". Too bad the extinguishers are such a pain to get. Then again, I could put almost anything in there... a Thermos... Bear Mace... :)
